This is a cuberpunk, young adult novel, set in a large city that extends into the sky, with only the richest living in the clouds while the rest of the workers live below the smog-line.
This story follows two heroes, one from above the smog and one from below, as they each explore their areas of the city in an attempt to answer the question, 'do things need to be this way?'.
As more black lung bodies pave the upper city paths, thievery and murder scourge the lands below. No one is satisfied, but what (or who) will be the catalyst of change?
The answer might lie outside the city walls, though no one is permitted to leave on account of the dangerous natives who life in the distant jungles. Our heroes escape, however, and are surprised by what they are greeted with. The people outside the walls live in fear of the city-folk, and all of the corruption and destruction warned about is caused by foresters and miners from the City, not the native people.
Ancient powers and modern technology combine to bring down the city walls and grind the biomass machine to a halt.
But at what cost?
I have finished 75% of the first draft for this novel. It is on track to reach 85,000 words.
